Resources for PhD students

Research training for doctoral students

In my previous job I was a core trainer for the Faculty of Humanities Postgraduate Research Training Programme at the University of Southampton. I ran sessions on a variety of topics including:

  • Turning a PhD chapter into an article
  • Writing academic book reviews.
  • Conference organisation
  • Giving a research paper at a conference
  • Research ethics
  • Writing for funding and employability.
  • Preparing for the PhD viva

Most of my PowerPoint Presentations and handouts can be freely downloaded from the Humbox as Open Educational Resources. I have made them available under a Creative Commons license meaning that people are free to use them and change them in any way they wish. As a word of caution I do use them in a face-to-face context so they may not necessarily work well as stand alone resources.
